Methane is treated with Ni, Fe, or Co or their compounds at a pressure up to 1,000 kg. per cm.², the migration of the H being facilitated by the addition of alkali or alkaline earth metals or of Cl, Br, I, S, Se, or Ti. The methane may be mixed with Hg vapor and submitted to an electrical field giving a difference of potential. This is an addition to French Patent 613,146 (abs. 832).
