            MeOH and higher alcohols, especially iso-BuOH, are separated from the crude products resulting from the hydrogenation of CO by extraction with a solvent boiling below MeOH in which MeOH is poorly soluble, for example, pentane, amylene, or their mixtures, followed by washing the extract with 70-90% aqueous MeOH and distillation.
