            Metal sulfides, which have been prepared by heating thio salts, are used as the catalysts.  They find particular application in the preparation of hydrocarbons by pressure hydrogenation or the cracking of carbonaceous material.  Thio salts of the metals of the 5th and 6th groups, as W. Mo, or V and other metals such as Cu, and Re, are suitable.  Addition  to German Patent 682,018 (abs. 2060).
