            In making liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons and their derivatives from H2 and CO, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst obtained by treating fused magnetic Fe oxide with a reducing gas, preferably H2, at >300º.  The catalyst may also contain Ti or Si or their compounds and activators, such as U, Mn, W, Cr, Mo, Cu, Ag, and their compounds or a small amount of Ni or Co or their compounds.  Alkali or alkaline earth metal compounds may be added also.
