            In reactions using H₂ at a high temperature, particularly in the hydrogenation of coal, tars, oils, the reaction vessels are protected against the destructive action of the H₂ by covering their surfaces with an alloy of Cu and Zn.  Other metals such as Mn, Ni, Fe, Co, Al, or Ag may be incorporated to increase the mechanical resistance.
