2138. MARTIN, F., AND ROELEN, O. [Production of High Alcohols and Fatty Acids of High-Molecular Weight.] German Patent Appl. —, filed Jan. 15, 1941, APC SN 374,605.

Aldehydes and alcohols produced as in APC SN 373,703 are hydrogenated to yield hydrocarbons. The latter are then dehydrogenated to the olefins, which are then treated with CO+H2 to yield alcohols and aldehydes of higher molecular weight than the starting materials. In this way it is possible to produce alcohols of very high molecular weight. Synthetic beeswax of superior properties may be obtained by esterification of a C16 fatty acid and a C14 alcohol.
