Lignite is gasified in a circulating gas stream that enters the gasification zone at > 1,300°.  In order to obtain a low CH4 content in the gas, the dust concentration of the added lignite per m.3 of circulating gas at 0° and 760 mm. Hg is chosen at > 500 gm.  A part of the already gasified char dust is returned to the highly heated stream of circulating gas and to the freshly added dust as soon as the latter is degassed.
