PATENT

3479. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.]  Catalytic Synthesis of Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 647,052, Dec. 6, 1950.  Chem. Abs., vol. 45, 1951, p. 4430.

Describes apparatus for the synthesis of hydrocarbons and for regeneration of Fe catalyst.  In the reactor a mixture of 31.5% CO and H2 is passed upward through a layer with definite upper level of dense fluidized Fe catalyst, 100- to 400-mesh., d. 50 lb. per cu. ft. at a rate of 10,000 ft.3 per hr., at about 600° F. and  15 atm.  Used catalyst is withdrawn downward, 25 lb. per hr., from near the bottom of the layer in the reactor to a similar but smaller reactor where a stream of 220-230 cu. ft. per hr. of air or O2 enriched air is passed upward through a layer of used catalyst to oxidize C and other contaminants.  Regenerated catalyst is returned to the reactor.
