Abstract

PURPOSE: Synthesis gases are directly introduced a gas expander to recover the energy in them efficiently.

CONSTITUTION: Synthesis gases resulting from the reaction of hydrocarbons or coal with steam and/or oxygen, which contain hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and steam and have pressures of 1-100 kg/cm2 gauge and temperature of 200-1,000oC, are introduced into a gas expander to drive it. Then, the exaust gases are cooled to separate the condensed water and compressed with a compressor, then used as synthesis gases, thus recovering the energy in the synthesis gases.
