Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase catalytic activity by hydrogenating catalyst comprising group VIII metal such as Ni support on carrier such as alumina at specified temp. or by reducing the catalyst in liquid phase with metal hydride.

CONSTITUTION: Catalyst for synthesizing hydrocarbon or oxygen-containing hydrocarbon comprising group VIII metal such as Ni, Co, Pt, etc. supported on carrier such as alumina, alumina-silica, titania, etc. is hydrogenated at 450-700oC, or reduced in liquid phase with metal hydride such as NBH, LAH, etc. By this mehod, the activity of treated catalyst is remarkably improved. For example, the catalytic activity of catalyst for synthesizing hydrocarbon containing 1% Ru supported on alumina carrier is improved to ca. twice by hydrogenation at 600oC for 1 hr.
