Abstract

PURPOSE: Partial oxidation of liquid hydrocarbon in the presence of molecular oxygen and steam is conducted in a furnace in the coexistence of an appropriate amount of nitrogen to produce synthesis gas without erosion of the installation.

CONSTITUTION: In the production of synthesis gas where partial oxidation of liquid hydrocarbon such as naphtha cracking product is conducted in the presence of molecular oxygen and steam in a furnace such as a shell furnace and the synthesis gas is separated after washing with water, the partial oxidation is carried out in the coexistence of nitrogen in an amount of 4-5 NM3 per 1t of the liquid hydrocarbon. Thus, the ammonia is increased in the rinsing slurry obtained from the above hydrocarbon of low nitrogen content to raise the pH and prevent the parts contacting with slurry-water in the installation from being eroded by oxidation.
